Fantastic, incredible, superb, awesome, were just a few of the comments from the 26 Piper One Design Class owners and crews that celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Class.
Never in the history of the Class has there been 26 boats on a start line, even during the heady days of Clyde Week.
With only 57 boats built during the ‘Robertsons’ era at Sandbank in the Holy Loch and a good number of these spread around the globe, it was amazing to see so many back in the water and taking part.
Owners who had not had their boat in the water for a number of years were determined to be part of this special occasion.
The weekend kicked off with a race from Kilgreggan to Rhu Marina, where the hospitality was duly poured in the Marina Marquee before 111 crews, skippers and friends descended on the RNCYC to get together for a well earned supper.
