Portishead Quays Marina lock shutdown going well

Portishead Quays Marina lock shutdown going well

The Portishead Quays Marina lock has been closed this week to allow the team to carry out periodic maintenance.
During this time, the lock has been de-watered and stoplogs (which form a water barrier) have been fitted outside the outer lock gates to enable the 13 metre high outer gates to be partially open to allow the fitting of new seals. New anodes have also been fitted to both gates and new wood fendering and brackets have been fitted to the inner sill.
The stoplogs will be removed with the help of a large crane and we are hoping that the lock will resume operations ahead of schedule. The blue cherry picker in front of the outer lockĀ gates in this photo helps give you a measure of their scale.
