The Conwy Marina Berth Holders Association (CMBHA) with financial support from Quay Marinas and various other local organisations has secured two Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to be located at Conwy Quays Marina and Deganwy Quays Marina.
The use of defibrillation equipment used to require hours of training but now portable defibrillators are capable of being deployed with minimal instruction, delivering vital life saving action within the first few minutes of a heart attack and increasing the chances of the patient's survival by up to 75%. Roger Millward, Chairman of CMBHA, organised free training with the local Ambulance Service of which 2 sessions have already taken place with more to come in the next few months.
Jon Roberts, Quay Marinas Area Manager for Conwy and Deganwy Marinas, said 'We are grateful to the CMBHA for this initiative and the AEDs are a great addition to the life saving equipment that we already have on site. Both units are registered with the NHS and local Ambulance Service and will be available for anyone to use at the marinas or close by'.
