Howth 17's paint a pretty picture at Bangor Marina

A fleet of seven Howth 17's travelled recently from Dublin Bay to take part in the Royal Ulster Yacht Club 150 year celebrations and we were pleased to welcome them to Bangor Marina.
Designed in 1897 and first built and launched in 1898, the Howth Seventeen Footer is the oldest one-design keelboat racing class in the world and is still racing today to its original design. This still thriving class of boat was designed by Walter Herbert Boyd to be sailed in the local waters off Howth, Ireland. The original five 'gaff-rigged topsail' boats arrived in Howth Harbour in the spring of 1898 and are still raced hard from April until November every year along with the other thirteen historical boats of this class.
