What a catch!
Another successful angling season was rounded off at Royal Quays Marina with a presentation to Bob Mennie, winner of the newly introduced 'Big Fish Competition'. Bob captor of 20 lb Ling, the largest fish landed by a bertholder during the season, received a voucher for £100 fuel and a few cans to share with his fishing mates. Quite a few other ling came close, most caught aboard Bobs boat the 'White Diamond', with Bobs son Matthew leading the competition at one stage with a fish of 18 lb.
Other notable fish this year included a 17 ½ lb cod caught by John Reynolds owner of 'Mel Amy'
Matthew Simms, the Marina Manager commented "we recognize that many of our bertholders enjoy boat angling and we are keen to encourage this activity wherever possible. As well as the big fish competition we have supported a number of boat angling competitions and we have installed a weigh station on the pontoons".
With reports of sword fish and porbeagle shark being caught in local nets this season, next years competition could be even more exciting!
