Marina Manager takes over

Andrew Jaggers, Quay Marinas Marina Manager has volunteered to take over command at Bangor Lifeboat station from the outgoing Lifeboat Operations Manager, (LOM), Mervyn Kinney, who is standing down after 20 years services as crew member, senior helm and LOM.

Bangor Lifeboat "Jessie Hillyard" is a new Atlantic 85, the first of this new class in Ireland. Last year Bangor Lifeboat was the busiest boat and station in Ireland, launching 53 times on calls to people in distress at sea in Belfast Lough and its approaches.

All Quay Marinas operational staff are involved as volunteer lifeboat or shore crew at Bangor. Andrew Jaggers said: "In days gone by lifeboats were typically manned by volunteers from the fishing and maritime industries in harbours around our coasts. As these activities have declined in many areas, it now feels to me entirely appropriate that we in the marine leisure industry are able to fulfil our social and community responsibilities in this important way".
